General Education Ethical Behavior Learning Outcome
This course, PSY 150-General Psychology, assess students’ awareness of standards of ethical behavior. Ethical behavior and thinking (mental processing) exemplify a set of principles of appropriate conduct that governs individuals in all their social, civic, academic, and professional interactions (behaviors) and decision making (mental processes). Awareness of ethical standards of conduct is an indication that individuals have been appropriately introduced to ethic principles.
Consider the following vignette:
In a manuscript submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed psychological journal, a psychologist used the organization, heading formats, and arguments presented by the authors in an article published in an obscure journal. The psychologist cited the original article only once in the opening paragraph of the manuscript. Two paragraphs duplicated word-for-word sentences in the original article, and many of the article’s paragraphs were paraphrased. The psychologist added five new references that appeared after the original article was published.
In one or two paragraphs, briefly (1) identify the ethical problem; (2) identify the relevant facts in the situation; (3) identify the different views concerning the problem; and (4) offer a reasonable remedy or solution to the ethical violation.
