General PsychologyIntroductory Critical Thinking Reflection
This paper has 3 parts
.1 –What is critical thinking?•Please answer this question in onecarefully crafted sentence to the best of your ability without looking in the textbook or looking it up online.
I’m simply trying to get a baseline for your understanding of this essential skill.I don’t even expect this answer to be very good, as people enter this class with a huge variety of life experience and personal interest.Everyone should get full points for it.
2 –Write a narrative of your experience in answering this question: Do humans use only 10% of their brains?•Before doing this part, I highly please read all the textbook has to say about critical thinking and scientific methodology(Ch 2), coming to my class on this topic (usually the 2ndclass), and reading/watching the additional readings/videos in the Ch 1/2 module.•Your task here is to answer the question using whatever sources you think are appropriate.•Write a narrative of your process of answering the above question. Be specific. Include sources and links. For example, if your first thought is to ask your sister, who is busy taking AP Psych, tell me about that conversation. If you decide to look it up on urbandictionary.com, tell me about that process. Tell me about your whole process of answering this question, from beginning to end.In the end, you should be able to answer that question and to support your answer with some resource.•This question does have a correct answer, but I am just as interested in the process of you findingthat answer, and supporting your answer, as the answer itself.•This will need a reference page. Just make a new page at the end of your document, call it “References” and list them in a way that is clear.3 –What is critical thinking? Is it important in your life? Why or why not?•Again, please don’t do this by copying a definition from the text or some other source. This one can be more than one sentence. This should be done after part 2. I don’t want a textbook definition here, but now that we have discussed it in class and you’ve read about it, you should have a more robust answer.Format: For this introductory paper, I don’t require APAformatting, although you will need to use this format for the other papers. I do I expect college level writing. If you have concerns about your abilities in this area, I highly suggest making an appointment at the Writing Center, Building 4, Room 120.Make sure your name is on it, give it a title, write it in Times New Roman 12 pt font, double spaced. Normal 1’’ margins. You will need a reference page, although for this paper you don’t need to have the sources in APA format. If you use online sources, be they websites or youtube videos or online journal articles, you will need to include the full url –the full clickable link for each.Note:if you want to get a jump on it, I put a .pdf example paper for APA formatting in the Papers folder.APA formatting will be necessary for the future papers in the course. You could make yours look like the examplefor the header, title page, body and references.I would hope that pre-psych majors and anyone who would like to get an A in the class would do this.
Length:Hard to say. Some papers will be longer than others. Just answer the questions well and follow the instructions.
