This case resembles a Southern California decision that occurred shortly after the1973 US Supreme Court ruling in Roe v. Wade which permitted elective abortions.
INSTRUCTIONS: Read the case, answer the question that follows.
A doctor who was performing a legal abortion on a women who was in her second trimester (4-6 months pregnant) noticed that the “aborted fetus” was actually born alive. He held the fetus’s head inside the birth canal until the fetus suffocated. The doctor’s thinking was the fetus was intended to have its life ended during the abortion procedure, and that its being born alive was an error that could result in an unwanted or deformed child. Therefore, he felt that he had performed an act of mercy.
What do you think about the doctors action?
If you defend the action, explain why;
If you oppose it, again tell me why.
