Prompt: Compare/contrast at least three Southern Gothic elements evident in both “Barn Burning” and “A Good Man is Hard to Find.”
The elements should specifically relate to the Southern Gothic genre, not Gothic in general, so review these if necessary by rereading the information provided in Module Four. All work assigned to this paper MUST be completed to receive a final mark in Module Six.
Apply PEE to your body paragraphs. Evidence for your various points must be relevant to the points, not generalized. The same applies to explanations. These should fill in context for the choice of your quotes, which can only be provided through a complete understanding of the two stories. Reread both if necessary. Please remember to number pages, add a pertinent title, and provide your name, my name (Ms. Overbeck), the date and course number in the upper left-hand corner.
1500-1600, Times New Roman, 12 pt. font. You must stay within this word count; do not go over or under as a percentage of either is subtracted from the final mark.
Please type the word count on the final page of your essay, following your conclusion. The Works Cited page is not included in the word count. Please ensure that the Works Cited page is a separate page altogether. In this assignment, you may attach it at the end of the essay on a separate page. Remember that it needs its own heading and page numbers as it is considered a separate paper.
All documents ( the essay and Works Cited page) need to be word processed and uploaded to Turnitin before the deadline. Please remember that I do not accept late papers under any circumstances other than a major crisis (see the course syllabus). Your timekeeper may not be in sync with Turnitin. Don’t wait until the last minute, then, to submit as the software may have timed out.
Also, please ensure that you use either Chrome or Firefox for the upload, and your document should be written in Word and transferred into a PDF file. Always check the PDF before you upload to ensure it looks the way it should, If there are any formatting issues, etc., delete that PDF, return to the original document, make the necessary changes, and repeat the PDF process.
If your document downloaded successfully, you will receive a green checkmark with words to the effect that your download was successful. If you don’t receive that checkmark, contact Canvas Support for help (the Help icon in the far left-hand column). You may also check your submissions to ensure they have been uploaded. Again, if you need help, contact Canvas Support.
Please review the rubric attached to the essay as these are the criteria applied for marking.
Background: Please include research on both writers’ backgrounds, as well as any other information apropos to the story (4 sentences maximum per author). Also, include a brief summary of each story (3 sentences maximum). Please do not use general information websites such as Wikipedia or authors.com, etc. as source material. Only use them as starting points. Use literary sources that have an author/editor and drafting information. All research must have a writer or editor’s name attached to it. If this is not done, the paper will automatically receive a zero. Style Format: Please use MLA format throughout and include a Works Cited page. Ensure that the citations on the Works Cited Page agree with the citations used within the paper.
