The Review of Your Literary Journey will be your final paper in the class. In this essay, you will explain and describe your growth as a reader throughout this course by reviewing your journals, discussions, and literary analysis papers from throughout the semester and narrating for your reader your experiences with the readings.
It is essential that you do not look up any summaries or analyses about the texts online or in any other place. This assignment is not about whether or not you have an accurate reading of the texts we read, but about the process you went through to read them.
Your review should review your experiences with the literature this semester. As you study your writing over the semester, explain and analyze the ways in which you’ve grown as a reader and student of literature by illustrating your understanding of certain concepts, strategies, and texts we’ve covered in the class.
Your thesis should make a claim about how you’ve learned to read and study literature over the semester. To support that thesis you should choose a few examples that show the reader your process of coming to understand how to approach literature, what meaning you find in it, and what skills you will take with you.
The Content: Here is what your paper should contain:
An introduction and conclusion to your review
A thesis that makes a claim about your experiences
The discussion about the process of encountering literature and conclusions you came to understand about your reading/learning process this semester
Specific examples from texts or lectures to support your points, properly cited using MLA documentation
MLA “Work Cited” page
The Guidelines: I do expect you to employ your best writing skills. This review should be a well-organized essay, focusing on a central point or claim, providing support for that claim, carefully proofread, and employing proper MLA documentation.
The paper should be 850-1000 words in length, Times New Roman, 12 pt. font, default margins, double space only.
