​This research study seeks to answer the research question: how has advancements in technology improved healthcare administration?
Research Goals and Objectives
​Research studies show that technology is a chief driving force in the modern healthcare industry based on technological breakthroughs in treatment, different healthcare advancements and the constant change in how the industry operates. Technology has also had a profound influence in the healthcare management sector which has impacted on the productivity of healthcare providers (Bardhan & Thouin, 2013; Okpala, 2018). Some examples of health information technology products that directly affect health administration include: electronic health records (EHR) and prescriptions, consumer health IT applications, telehealth, and the use of digital disease registries. This research study aims to provide a critical analysis of how advancements in technology have improved healthcare administration in terms of productivity, costs, quality of care, and patient safety and satisfaction levels. Technology keeps on changing which provides increased benefits to the delivery and quality of care provided to patients and increased productivity and efficiency among health care providers.
​The expected results for this study include the impacts and outcomes of technology use in the healthcare sector and its effects on patients; costs of access to care, safety, quality of care, and satisfaction levels as well as healthcare providers and how this affects their productivity and efficiency levels.
Research Goal: The primary goal of the study is to establish how advancements in technology have improved healthcare administration based on productivity, costs, quality of care, and patient safety and satisfaction levels.

Literature Review
​ Technological advancements have had profound impacts in the healthcare sector and saved a huge percentage of patients which has continued to improve the quality of life. The digitization of health records has replaced outdated paper records and enhanced access to patient information, reduced medical errors, and improved service delivery (Bardhan & Thouin, 2013; Hessels et al., 2016; Okpala, 2018). The ease and remote access of EHR has improved public health and helps in advancing medical knowledge and development, increased productivity among healthcare providers, and reduced healthcare costs. The use of big data which is the enormous amounts of data collected and analyzed for analytics aids in the reduction of healthcare costs, addressing preventable deaths, predicting epidemics, improving the quality of life, enhancing the quality of care and efficiency, limiting waste, and the creation of new medicines and treatment options. However, it is imperative to point out that technological advancement and adoption in healthcare administration is also characterized by different disadvantages such as the costs incurred to purchase, maintain, and keep up with the changing technology, healthcare providers also have to have the relevant skills required to use the technology and avoid medical errors, as well as the issue of data security and threats to patient’s confidential information.
The US healthcare system leads in the adoption and advancement of technology on a global scale which has enhanced the management of patients through improved service delivery and patient satisfaction as well as that of the clinical settings. Okpala (2018) asserts that technology advancements increase productivity and service delivery by decreasing the waiting time and enhancing communication between patients and the healthcare providers. It provides timely assessments and intervention programs. Okpala also notes that the associated cost of implementation and use directly affects the access to healthcare services and the satisfaction of patients which determines the rate of technological advancement in this field (2018). One of the most significant goals of the US healthcare system is to reduce the costs of healthcare which means that a balance has to be established between the need for new technologies to improve the quality of life and care and the need to decrease costs. This study evaluates existing data and shows how the adoption of advanced technologies impacts its operations and affects patient’s satisfaction as well as the adoption cost of healthcare services. The study by Okpala (2018) is relevant to the topic in this research since it shows how the integration of technology has contributed to an improvement in the quality of diagnostic procedures, monitoring, and data-keeping of patient’s records.
According to Bardhan and Thouin, the impact of health information technologies (HIT) in the quality of care provided to patients is an important subject that has resulted in mixed findings (2013). The study uses archival data to establish the link between HIT, the quality care, and the outcomes of cost reduction. Quality of care is an important aspect of healthcare and technology ensures timely access to patient’s records, which eliminates medical errors or duplications thus saves costs, reduces waste, and enhances the access to care and productivity (Bardhan & Thouin, 2013). This study relates to the research question as it highlights the impacts of technology advancement in the provision of quality care, the issue of cost reduction, and the overall impact of HIT on patient health and wellbeing. The authors confirmed a positive link between the use of HIT and patients access to care and the use of best practices in treatment.
Lee, McCullough, and Town (2012) assert that HIT is a tool that has the potential to transform the healthcare industry primarily through service delivery. It is evident that the adoption of HIT improves health outcomes and increases productivity among healthcare providers. Nonetheless, the study notes that although technology in the healthcare sector improves productivity and quality of care, healthcare providers have to note how the same translates to cost reductions, higher profit margins, and patient volumes (Lee, McCullough, & Town, 2012). This study is relevant to the topic as it shows how technology impacts productivity and its relationships to cost implications in healthcare administration.
The advancements in technology in modern society have created a dynamic and exciting platform of discovery, the generation of knowledge, and fundamental changes that continue to inform and impact the healthcare field, healthcare providers, and patient outcomes (Hessels et al., 2016). This study examines the link between the adoption of electronic health records and the satisfaction levels of hospitalized patients as well as adverse outcomes. The study is relevant to the topic since it analyzes how effective adoption of technology can be used to address issues of readmission, the length of stay, patient safety, and account for critical organizational aspects.
Patient safety is key in healthcare delivery and is commonly described by avoidance and prevention. Technology can be used to reduce and limit medical errors and transform the healthcare environment to attain safer and better care. The use of HIT, telemedicine, e-prescribing, barcode medical administration, remote patient monitoring, and clinical decision support all aid in the improving patient safety, the delivery of care, access, and patient satisfaction levels which relates to the study in this research topic (Alotaibi & Federico, 2017).
The research studies discussed in this paper confirm the benefits of the advancements in technology in healthcare administration. Technology in healthcare has greatly enhanced the relationship between patients and healthcare providers translating to better diagnosis systems, assessments, interventions, and the overall quality of life. There are a few gaps in the previous research such as the link between technology and cost implications of adoption and use. This study will address the need to achieve a balance in the adoption of technology and quality care since technology keeps on changing thus results in higher purchase rates and maintenance costs that can impact access to care.

​It is evident that technology has led to a huge change in the healthcare industry as patients can easily access some of the best diagnostic tools, minimally invasive procedures, and new drugs and treatments. Some of the anticipated outcomes include: the fact that advancements in technology have extensively improved healthcare administration; technology has enhanced the quality of life and care provided to patients; EHRs have improved efficiency and productivity among healthcare providers; patient safety and satisfaction levels have greatly improved due to the adoption and integration of technology in the healthcare industry; and the cost implications of accessing health which have been impacted by advancements in technology.

III. Needs Assessment (10pts)
Based on the problem you identified, describe how you would conduct a needs assessment. This section should be approximately one page. Do not conduct a needs assessment – it’s as difficult as a whole study is, just describe how you would do it. Your response should include:
1. Who are your key stakeholders? Why are they important to your research project? 2. Describe the needs assessment you will conduct and how it will gain useful input from the key stakeholders
3. What do you anticipate the needs assessment findings will tell you?
4. Will the key stakeholders be on board with your research project? Why? IV. Literature Review (5pts)
State in more detail the problem you have identified and include data sources that support your claim (e.g., lack of physical activity in your community and data on physical activity rates from Healthy People 2020). This section should be 2-3 pages. The formatting of this section is as follows:
