Book Review InstructionsDescription:To increase your depth of understanding, you can take this opportunity to select, read, and write a review of a nonfiction economics related book. Hooray!* Your primary goal is to summarize the text in a way that demonstrates you actually read the book. The best way to do this is to cite & paraphrase (not just quote) the text frequently, and to include citations from throughout the book (not just the first few chapters). You can connect the book and class concepts in any way you like, as long as you explicitly note how what you read connects to things you’ve learned in class.I have provided a list of suggested books in a separate document. You may propose a different book if you wish, but it is subject to my ultimate discretion and you must get it approved by me in advance (email is best for this). Minimum Requirements:-4 whole pages of text not including name/title/header or references (double spaced, 12 point font, standard margins). 8 pages of text MAXIMUM.-A summary of the contents that demonstrates you read the book.-A review and evaluation based upon what you’ve learned in class. This means explicitly connecting the ideas in your book to concepts and topics we’ve covered this term.-A properly formatted academic reference for your book (citation style of your choice – APA, MLA, etc.). Papers that do not meet the minimum length or connection to course material requirements of the assignment will receive a 0 grade. *A pedagogical note:Part of a college education includes developing the skills necessary to be a lifelong learner – this means finding intellectual challenges and pursuing them. As many of you won’t be pursuing an academic career, finding and reading nonfiction books will be one of the best ways to challenge yourselves and “feed” your brains. While at first economics books might not be the most thrilling things you’ve read, they can provide a unique and insightful perspective, and more importantly, they can help you better understand the world we live in. If you follow through with this assignment you will find that you can learn a lot on your own, and all it takes is time to read. This assignment isn’t intended to induce suffering – I’m trying to encourage you to develop habits that will benefit you throughout your lives.
