part1My initial concerns in the design process would be to identify the goals, values, and objectives of this particular drug treatment program so that I understand what the Program Director would like to achieve. I would ask the Program Director if he or she has developed a goal statement, and I would need to know what the specific objectives of the program were. According to our authors, objectives should clearly and concisely define the exact outcome to be achieved by the intervention (Welsh & Harris, 2016). Well-developed objectives should indicate a time frame for the intended change, a target population, the result, and a criterion for measuring the achievement of the desired result (Welsh & Harris, 2016). I would also help to plan and develop process objectives, or short-term tasks that should be completed in order to implement the program, in order to drive the program forward. Some advice I would give the Director is to focus on goal setting and seeking participation in implementing the program. For the most part, participants and stakeholders should agree on the premises of the program and what they are trying to achieve (Welsh & Harris, 2016). I would also advise the Director (the change agent) to involve a range of different participants in the planning process as opposed to just those at the administrative level. part 2
If a drug treatment program director were to reach out to me to design a good program, I would have some concerns in the initial design process. As this is a drug treatment program for drug offenders, I would have two main concerns regarding the initial design process. My first concern is seeking the appropriate stakeholders to implement the goals and objectives of the program. Suppose there is no strong team to carry out crucial components of the design. In that case, there will be unsuccessful outcomes such as relapses in participants and continued drug-related offenses. My second concern would have the stakeholders not identifying the goals and values of the program. Identifying a common goal is problematic because it requires disclosure of personal beliefs and values in which positions in an agency can interfere with the need for transparency (Welsh & Harris, pg. 87).
