KEEP it UNDER 500 Words – See Rubric
For this assignment, I would like for you to watch the National Geographic documentary, The Human Family Tree. Here is a link to the documentary.
After you watch the film, please answer the following question in a 300-500 word essay.
What can genetic testing teach each of us about our long-term family history, and our relationships with other peoples and cultures of the world? How can this new information help people move beyond scientifically inaccurate and socially harmful ideas about race and racism?
Here is the rubric I will use to grade this assignment.
An “A” essay is excellent. 14-15 points. The essay is 300-500 words long and answers the question using examples from the documentary. The essay is clearly and concisely written, with no major grammatical or spelling errors. Each sentence makes a contribution to the answer. The answer shows creativity and careful thought about the question.
A “B” essay is good. 12-13 points. The essay is 300-500 words long and answers the question using examples from the documentary. The essay is clearly and concisely written, but there may be a few sentences that do not say much. There may be a few minor grammatical or spelling errors. The answer shows thought about the question, but has room for improvement.
A “C” essay is more or less satisfactory but has a few major problems. 11-10 points. The essay is too long or too short, and uses few examples from the film. Other problems may include major spelling or grammar problems and/or a few significant factual errors. There was an attempt to answer the question, but there is not much evidence of thought or effort.
